Adult understanding of incarceration

I must have been teaching when I found out why we were in Greenwood. I knew in the back of my head that we were sent to Greenwood because of war. That we had no choice. We couldn’t stay in Vancouver or Steveston. But it was much later when I was in high school when I realized it was because they were a coastal city / town. And they might help the Japanese army or navy with fishing boats. I just thought that.

But I didn’t know why we were sent to internment camps. Nobody ever said because we’re enemies, right? I learned about the internment when I went back to teaching in Greenwood.
