[There was] that camp at Oppenheimer Park in front of temple. When we were going to have the Powell Street Festival, older people said: we understand what it’s like to be moved. So, they understood why they would leave them alone.
[Regarding the treatment of Indigenous people.] We weren’t taken away from our home to go to school like Indigenous children. We went to a Catholic school but we stayed home and went to school. With natives it’s different. They were taken away from home, which is a lot different.
You know the Afghanistan thing really upsets me to watch. Maybe I associate it with World War II. Japanese people must have been like that right running away from the bomb or whatever.
