When the Japanese Canadians were required to relocate a minimum of 100 miles from the Coast, the family decided to move to Alberta to work in the sugar beet fields. This decision was made so that the family could remain together as there was much uncertainty about the future at this time.

In 1947, the family moved to Winnipeg to re-unite with the rest of the family (Takahashi’s and Kawaguchi’s) and in 1949 when the Japanese Canadians were allowed to move freely within Canada, my father returned first to Steveston to establish himself and the family joined him a year later.
